Eileen Collins and the STS-114 crew speak to the crowd after landing at the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla.

The crew of Discovery arrived at Cape Canaveral on Saturday, July 9, a day ahead of schedule, in order to avoid Hurricane Dennis, which is expected to affect an area to the west of the launch site.

Mission Commander Eileen Collins and the crew were flown in by NASA corporate jet, where they were met by the Director of the Kennedy Space Center and about 100 journalists.

Astronaut Andrew Thomas addressed the crowd, saying that the two and a half year grounding of the Shuttle fleet was "way too long".

Discovery is due to test Shuttle safety improvements and repair the International Space Station. Mission objectives include: Return to Flight; deployment of the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module, (which carries supplies and equipment to the ISS); delivery of the External Stowage Platform to the ISS; removal and replacement of the Control Moment Gyro.
